Princess Peach Toadstool (known mainly in Western territory by her surname, and by her first name in Japan) is one of the main characters of the Super Mario Bros. series. She is Mario's love interest.
Personality
Princess Peach is commonly known for her sweet, graceful, calm, sophisticated, and well-mannered demeanor. She rarely displays aggression, even when confronting enemies. Peach is willing to ally with Bowser and the Mario Bros. when a greater threat emerges. She maintains a friendly relationship with Luigi, despite interacting with him less frequently than with Mario. As shown in Super Mario Odyssey, Peach enjoys travel, fashion, gardening, and ballroom dancing.
While her femininity is often emphasized, contrasting her with the tomboyish Princess Daisy, Peach also exhibits tomboyish traits. She shares a passion for sports and video games with Daisy and the male characters, and is not afraid to engage in rough-and-tumble activities. Peach is frequently portrayed as brave and confident. When not kidnapped, she actively participates in adventures alongside Mario, or embarks on her own. Notably, she was the first to act when Bowser kidnapped the Sprixie Princesses. In Super Mario 3D Land, she bravely attempted to escape Bowser's clutches, demonstrating her courage even in failure.
Princess Peach is consistently portrayed as relaxed, gentle, noble, regal, and proud. She extends kindness and friendship to nearly everyone she encounters, showing care for both allies and adversaries. In any confrontation, she maintains respect and dignity. She is refined and proper without being arrogant or condescending. Peach is also highly organized, ensuring her appearance is impeccable and her castle and kingdom are orderly.
While calm and composed, she is also cheerful, though not as exuberantly so as Princess Daisy. Despite her royal status, Peach actively participates in events and activities, whether they involve action or sports.
Appearance
Princess Peach is a young woman with long waist-length golden blonde hair and blue eyes. She usually wears a pink ballgown with a blue brooch on her chest. She wears blue round earrings and a golden crown with red and cyan jewels. She wears pink shoes and long white opera gloves. Prior to her appearance in Mario Party 4, Peach's outfit had a somewhat different design with more dark pink on the lower portion of her dress and around the middle.
In athletics, Princess Peach ties her hair into a ponytail with a blue hairband, and wears a short pink sport clothing with pink shorts. She wears white socks and pink shoes. In golf and tennis, she wears a short pink dress. In Mario Golf: Super Rush, she wears a pink t-shirt and a light pinkish-skirt. As Fire Peach, she still wears her hair into a ponytail, except the hairband is red instead of blue. Her dress turns white and red and her shoes turn to red.
In the Super Smash Bros. series, Princess Peach looks slightly different from how she appears in the Mario series. She looks anatomically realistic, as her head is a bit smaller and she is slightly taller than she normally is in the Mario series. Her dress, gloves and crown are all more ornate in design than in the Mario series.

Hotel Mario
Princess Toadstool sends a letter to the Mario Bros., inviting them to join her on a relaxing picnic. However, once the brothers arrive, they find a letter from Bowser at the "Klub Koopa Resort", where it read that they have taken over the Mushroom Kingdom and turned it into a resort where it had seven hotels. In addition, they have Princess Toadstool trapped in one of the hotels and he challenges them to find her.
Each time Mario and Luigi overtakes a hotel, they often come close to freeing Princess Toadstool, only for another Koopaling to snatch her away and imprison her in their hotel, leading Mario and Luigi to chase that Koopaling down to catch up to them. She is often stuck in a tree, clouds, and buildings, and eventually in the hotels controlled by the Koopalings. Regardless of being tricked by Bowser numerous times, Mario will still have the volition to continue his search for the missing princess. Once Princess Toadstool is finally released from captivity, she will reward the Mario Bros. with kisses in thanks and the trio will tell the player, "You're the best player ever!".
Powers and Abilities
- Heart powers: Princess Peach is shown to be a heart princess. Her abilities are usually based around hearts and the power of love. With it, she can perform various abilities such as attacking, absorbing and repelling attacks, stunning opponents, interacting and manipulating objects, and healing.
- Wishing powers: Princess Peach also has powerful wishing abilities. She can strengthen and weaken anyone with it. Princess Peach was able to channel her powers into a beam of energy with the help of the Star Spirits and levitate Bowser through telekinesis with the help of Starlow.
- Magic: Princess Peach is an efficient user of magic. She can use it to put opponents to sleep, silence opponents from using special moves, revive allies, or bombard a cluster of foes.
- Levitation: Princess Peach can float in mid-air with the use of her skirt. This was introduced in the American version of Super Mario Bros. 2, her first playable appearance.
- Athletisism: She is shown to be skilled at tennis, gold, and soccer.
- Parasol skills: Princess Peach can effectively use a parasol. She can use it to block attacks, glide and float, and attack opponents. In Paper Mario, she gets a special parasol that turns her into Bowser's guards and in Super Princess Peach, her parasol has a mind of its own and can transform into a submarine.
- Emotion empowerment: In Super Princess Peach, being on location in Vibe Island allowed Princess Peach and her enemies to channel her emotions into powers. With Joy, she can fly and create cyclones. With Rage, she will create a magic fire around her, and create earthquakes by jumping. Gloom will enable her to run much faster, jump higher, and turn her tears into strong waterspouts. Calm heals her.
- Informant: Sometimes when Princess Peach is captured, she goes undercover, gathering information and sending it or useful items to Mario, usually by letters.
- Swordsmanship: In the Mario and Sonic series, Peach is shown to be skilled at fencing. But in Mario Party 2, she as a pirate in pirate land, she used the sword to fight against Captain Bowser. She can even use that skill when transforming into a swordfighter. She reprises this skill in Princess Peach: Showtime! as Swordfighter Peach.
- Gunsmanship: As a cowgirl, and astronaut, Peach has the ability to use a pistol to shoot Bowser down in Western land, and Space land, in Mario Party 2.
- Witchcraft: As a witch in Mario Party 2 she has the power of a wand to cast a spell to turn the cursed Koopa Troopa, back to his original self, and even turn Bowser into a frog, as well.
- Aquatic breathing and Swimming: As a mermaid, in Princess Peach: Showtime! she has the ability to breathe, talk, and use a powerful and beautiful singing voice (much like Ariel from Disney's The Little Mermaid can, while swimming underwater.)
- Rope Use: As Cowgirl Peach (in Princess Peach: Showtime!) she can use a lariat with exceptional skill, enough to wrangle a barrel thrown at her and then hurl it back at the sender.
- Super Strength: As Mighty Peach (in Princess Peach: Showtime!) she is stated to have 30 times her regular strength, though seeing as she can lift an entire bus over her head and throw it, this may be an understatement.
- Flight: As Mighty Peach, she uses a jetpack, which she can also use for space flight. As Dashing Thief Peach, she can fly via use of a collapsable hang glider stored in her backpack.
- Ninjutsu Skills: As Ninja Peach, she is proficient with twin kunai swords and various stealth techniques. She can use a variety of equipment to conceal herself against walls, in tall grass, or in shallow water. If spotted, she can employ the kawarimi technique to escape by creating a wooden dummy in her place. Her heightened agility lets her scale walls, and increased speed lets her run on vertical surfaces. She can also use special magical scrolls to ride tides of water or summon (and ride) a powerful flying serpent.
- Kung Fu: As Kung Fu Peach, her enhanced speed, agility, and fighting skills allows her to defeat dozens of enemies by herself.
- Supreme Chef: Her skills in baking are first mentioned in Super Mario 64, and it is shown in Mario Kart 8 that she and Daisy are co-owners of Peach & Daisy Royal Patisserie, which sponsors the race. In Princess Peach: Showtime! her skills as a chef are literally magical, able to cure brainwashed victims of the Sour Bunch gang's dark magic.
- Ice Skating: As Figure Skater Peach, she excels at on-ice performing, able to perform graceful piroettes and chartreuse, either alone, with a partner (Figure Skater Sparkla) or with a group in a synchronized dance. She can use her skating to inspire allies and attack foes (using a death spiral move on said foe once he is stunned) while appealing to the audiece. Most remarkably, she can combine figure skating with speed-skating, able to skate uphill and downhill while avoiding obstacles.

Trivia
- In the Super Mario Bros live-action film, Princess Peach isn't actually the princess Mario and Luigi have to rescue. Instead, it's Princess Daisy (although her chief inspiration came from Peach).
- Is same with the Super Mario Bros animated film where Mario rescues Luigi instead of Princess Peach.
- In The Super Mario Bros. Super Show, Peach is referred to as Princess Toadstool; her appearance resembles her sprite from Super Mario Bros. and she had a major role in several episodes.
- Princess Peach debuted on October 18, 1985, and this coincides with her sapphire brooch.
- Princess Peach has appeared in more games than any other female character in video game history.
- Princess Peach and Dr. Eggman both had different names in western regions. Princess Peach was named Princess Toadstool and Dr. Eggman used to be named Dr. Robotnik. Coincidentally, both characters had their names changed to match their original ones around the debut of new video game consoles (Nintendo 64 and SEGA Dreamcast respectively). In addition to that, they are both skill type characters in Mario and Sonic.
- Princess Peach was actually first referred to as such international in Yoshi's Safari on SNES.
- She earned her name from the idiom "to be a peach"; which is for an attractive, likable, admirable, or otherwise good person.
