Dave Garver is the main protagonist of the 1971 stalker-thriller film Play Misty for Me. He was a radio host who was stalked by Evelyn Draper after their enstraged one night stand, leading to a series of nightmare and unpredictable events coming after him.

He was potrayed by Clint Eastwood, who is also popular for potraying The Man With No Name in the Dollars trioligy, Philo Beddoe in Every Which Way but Loose, Walt Kowalski in Gran Torino and William Munny in Unforgiven.

History

Meeting by the Bar

Dave was a notorious radio DJ who often play song in his shows. After a night by the bar, he found himself at close with Evelyn, a woman who clearly have been a frequent of his talk show. Playing his luck by asking if she was the one who frequently requested "Misty", the two shares a night together.

He begin dating Evelyn as the two shares a mutual interest. However, he starts to find himself at odd with her due to her frequent instances of violating his personal space and attempts in obbessive behaviour. This becomes draining for him until the moment when she abruptly ruin his business chance by mistaking another woman as the third wheel, sending him into his desicion to severe their ties.

His action in rejecting her leads to his housekeeper to be attacked, leading to him putting her into a psychiatric hospital. He returns and connect with his former flame Tobie Williams, finally allow himself to live a peaceful life. However, this does not last long as he heard from Evelyn again, who tell him that she is starting a new. Unknown to him, in a night Evelyn attempted to murder him but he fought her off, escaping from his home.

Dave warns Tobie about the presence of Evelyn, but he did not realize that her new roomate was indeed Evelyn at the time. He use his intelligence and figure out Evelyn's role, which alert him to race against time to Tobie's house as he heard Evelyn call. Once he arrives, he encounter Evelyn and fought her one last time. Despite receiving several injuries and stratches from Evelyn, he tricked and pushed her right out to the window, sending her to the depths below.

The man return and frees Tobie as the two walk away from the house and walk to their freedom.

Dave was Clint Eastwood's first role in his directional debut.
